Mona Lisa (also known as Gioconda) is a portrait painted by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. It is an oil painting, completed between 1503 and 1517. This painting is exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris and is a property of the French State. The 77 cm × 53 cm painting is a portrait of Lisa Gherardini; the expression of her face often characterized as enigmatic. The painting was stolen from the Louvre Museum in 1911 and returned in 1913. It has been described as the most famous work of art in the world.
